I always knew I wanted to work with moms and babies, and immediately upon graduating when I was offered a job in a NICU – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at a hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. When my husband’s job brought us to Houston I chose to work in the postpartum unit at the hospital where I was employed as I wanted to gain experience in different areas of mother baby care. One of my passions being educating expectant and new moms led me to pursue my certification as an LCCE – Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator. I moved on to work at a hospital that offered the opportunity to teach prepared childbirth, as well as breastfeeding and infant care classes. At the same time I continued to work as a staff nurse in Well Baby Nursery and NICU.
In March of 2011 I was hired as the Lactation Consultant and Patient Education Coordinator at a local hospital. It was a job that I’d never dreamed of having, and I loved it. However, I had so many moms tearfully calling to request to come back to the hospital for help with breastfeeding, that I came to realize I could be of greater service to moms as a private practitioner. In January 2014 I left to start my practice as an IBCLC.
It’s been a joy to provide breastfeeding support to countless moms over these last five years, and in the years ahead I look forward to helping many more moms on their breastfeeding journey.
